Dear Northbridge families,
We’re glad so many middle school students choose to spend time at the library after school. This week we’ve seen a record number of kids, between 40 and 50 every day, between 2pm-4pm. We love your kids! They are curious, funny, and respectful. We want the Library to be a welcoming place where they can see friends, do homework, and enjoy activities.

As the afterschool crowd has grown, we’ve had some difficulty keeping the space comfortable and safe for everyone.
Whitinsville Social Library is a public building open to everyone. Please remind your child to be aware of their surroundings, stay with their belongings, and let a staff member know if someone or something makes them uncomfortable.
A student whose behavior disrupts the library may be asked to leave for the day. If problems continue over multiple visits, we will contact their family to discuss what support or changes are needed for future visits, which may include only visiting with an adult. No child is ever “banned” from the Library.

Please review these expectations with your child(ren) before their next Library visit:
-Middle school aged children are only allowed in the tween/teen room between 2pm-4pm.
-Enjoy food and drinks responsibly, and clean up afterward. We may need to limit food if messes become a continuing problem.
-Keep track of personal belongings. Staff cannot watch unattended backpacks, coats, or devices.
-Use conversational voices and keep phone audio low or use headphones. Talking with friends is welcome; shouting and screaming are not.
-Walk indoors, take care of library property, and give other patrons room to use the space.
-Keep hands to yourself. Pushing, hitting, and roughhousing are not permitted and you will be asked to leave immediately.
-Use library Chromebooks in the Tween & Teen Room and return them to a staff desk when finished.
-Keep the entrance, walkways, and driveway clear. Bikes belong in the rack along the right side of the building.
Thank you for helping us make after school time work for them, our staff, and everyone who uses the library. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Ms. Jen & the WSL staff
