We love that so many tweens and teens choose to spend their afternoons at the library! Our Tween & Teen Room is a place to relax, study, spend time with friends, and feel part of the community.
Please remember that the Tween & Teen room is reserved for middle school and older students exclusively from 2-4pm. Other patrons and younger children are welcome to browse the collection, but we want to give our older kids ownership of this space, and allow them to hang out and be themselves. (Yes, occasionally, they can get a little loud. )
After 4:00pm, the room returns to regular library use. The middle school kids can stay in this space, but from 4:00pm onward they must share it with all of our patrons.
Children ages 9 and older may visit the library without an adult. Before allowing your child to visit independently, please make sure they are ready to:
• Follow library rules and staff directions
• Treat other patrons, staff, and library property respectfully
• Keep track of their belongings
• Know how to contact a parent or caregiver in the event of an emergency
• Know when and how they are getting home
• Make safe choices while walking through town, crossing streets, and visiting nearby businesses
Please remember that the library is a public space, and open to everyone. Staff are available to help, but we cannot provide individual supervision or monitor when children enter or leave the building.
We encourage families to review our afterschool behavior and technology guidelines together. If staff need to address a young person’s behavior three times in one day, they may be asked to leave the library for the rest of the day. Every day is a fresh start, and we are always happy to welcome them back.
We want young people to feel that this is their space. With support from families, we can keep it safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone!
